Ever heard of binaural beats? No, it's not a new band. It’s an amazing therapy tool that’s gaining popularity for its ability to guide your brain into different states. Let’s explore how they work and how you can use them.

What Are Binaural Beats?

Binaural beats are created when you listen to two slightly different sound frequencies —one frequency in each ear. For example, if one ear hears a 200 Hz tone and the other hears 210 Hz, your brain perceives a third tone, which is the difference (10 Hz). This 10 Hz tone is the binaural beat.

The binaural beat acts as an auditory illusion and helps to synchronize your brainwaves to match the frequency of the beat. This process is called brainwave entrainment, and it can shift your mental state, depending on the frequency of the beat.

Different Binaural Beat Frequencies

Each binaural beat frequency has specific effects on the brain:

  • Delta Waves (1-4 Hz): Promotes deep sleep and healing. Ideal for those struggling with insomnia or needing physical recovery.

  • Theta Waves (4-8 Hz): Supports deep meditation, relaxation, and creativity. Great for stress relief and tapping into intuition.

  • Alpha Waves (8-12 Hz): Helps with a calm, alert state, perfect for reducing anxiety and enhancing mindfulness.

  • Beta Waves (12-30 Hz): Encourages focused concentration and sharp thinking. Ideal for studying or tackling complex tasks.

  • Gamma Waves (30-100 Hz): The fastest of all, gamma waves are linked to higher processing tasks, learning, memory, and peak mental performance. They play a key role in processing information and are often seen in moments of insight or heightened awareness.

How to Use Binaural Beats

Experience a sound bath in person, however if you are not able to attend a sound bath in person, try playing a recorded sound bath track - best with a good pair of headphones. The result? Relaxation and total bliss.

NB: *Sound therapy is a complementary therapy, if in doubt please consult your doctor before continuing.
